Life goes on

A short work

A young black woman, born into poverty but inspired by the social progress made during the early 21st century, built a career helping others like her grow successful. Her life's work is now deemed as waste, and she is cast aside.

But life goes on...

Guardians are relieved of their duties, allowing a once-contained disease, sensing opportunity, to spread again, preying upon ignorance and vulnerability.

But life goes on...

Daily affirmations of ignorance are spread through the airwaves by a narcissistic bully. Merging with lies the keepers of truth dare not refute, reality is increasingly blurred.

But reality continues unabated...

Captains of commerce and sycophants in the highest seats of power compete to stroke the feet of the golden calf, jockeying for their place in line by delivering grandiose praise.

But, for the ordinary, its bread and circuses...

The knights sworn to shield us from darkness quietly lay down their swords, complicit through inaction. One by one, the last pillars of protection silently collapse.

But life goes on...

A young boy wonders why his father disappeared, kidnapped by masked men bearing crosses. This child forever lives with abandonment and fear that the crusaders will return. The boy will never again see his father.

But the boy grows old...

Basic truths are no longer true. Red is not red, blue is not blue. Yesterday's facts are today's lies, as information aligns to party lines.

But life goes on...

The home you were born in is now conditional on your subservience. Permanence becomes tenuous, liberty fleeting, and life fearful, never knowing when you're next.

Life is never the same...but it goes on.
